About the Project

Welcome to The Humanities Project, a resource of the New Mexico Museum of Art. The Humanities Project expands on an idea that started with another resource, New Mexico Art Tells New Mexico History, namely that understanding art and the world around us work well together. Although you’ll find plenty of resources here to understand history through art, and art through history, you’ll also find an ever-expanding collection of modules that connect art from the Museum’s collection with a range of humanities topics such as philosophy, social studies, or literature.

Each year the Museum will add more content generated by work in our exhibitions, current events, scholars we work with, and the needs expressed by users of the site, especially New Mexico classroom teachers. For those classroom teachers who use The Humanities Project to enhance your work, we would like to hear about how you are using this content and what areas we can explore to support you. Our hope is for this to become a living resource that can be responsive to the needs of its users while adding new materials and that it can form a supportive community of learners who want to explore our world and the human condition through the lens of the arts and humanities.
